End of Learner 2.0

Lifelong Learning never ends. That is my goal.

I made the deadline, I have dipped a toe in the waters of each product presented. I had seen a couple previously and I find them all quite remarkable. I am 62 years old, I am several months away from retirement. Perhaps I will spend more quality time with new applications. Maybe I will create a web page for the family. Steve Goddard's 6 year old grandson has a web page - he is autistic. TobysWire.com

I am happy to have had this opportunity even if time did not allow for a proper emersion - or maybe my own spirit did not allow the time. I am basically a technopeasant - getting by on the skills I needed to be proud of the work that I do. I created some really nice capital campaign newsletters for example and the library has a formidable Donor Management system in place.

Off on an adventure

I am about to join my daughter and granddaughter on a princess vacation to Disney World. This is a vacation for the family princesses. The more rugged sorts - Terry, Brian and Caroline are hiking into the Grand Canyon. It is the climb out that kept me from joining them. I have just now worked back up to being able to walk a mile after my herniated disk melt down.

This blog is supposed to be on Wiki and posting favorites which I did -- but unfortunately only spent a little time. I plan to help get Administrative Procedures up on a Wiki before I retire.
I have some key things to finish in the office before I turn into a princess. Do you like my castle?

Much learned today

Today has been great. Ellyssa Kroski's presentation was terrific and we had very nice attendance.

I learned alot and went back in and corrected my tags in Library Thing.

While working on my own Learning2.0, I set up an account on Del.icio.us and tagged some favorites so I will be able to access them from home.

Then I spent sometime on BoingBoing and discovered the ultimate Geek Gift http://www.vouspensez.com/2008/04/22/the-geekiest-pants-ever/

The other thing I could not help notice is the times of day that much is posted - 3 in the morning, etc. I am afraid that I am of the generation that can only be kept up that late if I am reading a really great book otherwise I am in deep sleep.

Trying to catch up - LEARNING 2.0

These activities are great - I really enjoy doing this, but I have a question! WHERE DO BLOGGERS FIND THE TIME?

Thanks Irene - I used your photo for this Jumbotron! that I create for the online image generator activity.

I also spent a little time at http://www.librarything.com/catalog/cditalia creating my Library, I only had time to add the 5 books for the activity - but I can see why a person would like this site.

How Time Flies

It has been so long since I have blogged. Spring has arrived and I am getting back to my Learning 2.0 and today I visited Flickr where I created a Trading Card.

A cloudy, rainy day!

Wow - it has been days since I last made an entry and I am just shocked at how fast the time goes by. I continue to think about this whole idea of lifelong learning and keeping the mind busy and sharp. The complexity of technology and how easy it is for some people passed a certain age to resist its charms. I am the only person you know who does not have a cellphone. Three generation's of phone - when Caroline was 5 (in 2000) she called me on her Mom's cellphone from the church parking lot. When her Mom was 5 (in 1971) we moved and had to choose between a party line and a private line. And when I was 5 in 1950, I could pick up the phone in Caledonia, NY and ask Doris (the operator) to get my Uncle Buster at work. I noticed a copy of Electronic Game Monthly in the Youth Library and laughed out loud - I am so out of touch. Caroline called me to task for saying I had a Gameboy -- as apparently I have a newer, more technological Nintendo DS. I remembered that I gave Chris (my nephew) a Gameboy for his 10th birthday in 1990 several years before Caroline was even born and that my son, Michael played on a first generation Atari.

Musical Sundays

A short while ago - we began eating supper and watching a musical with our granddaughters on Sunday evening. It came about because Molly is so enamoured with High School Musical and we wanted to expand her horizons. Choosing a musical is very easy to do because the Library has such a wonderful media collection. Thank you Terri!

I remembered - as we watched My Fair Lady - that the story is based on George Bernard Shaw's Pygmalion and I shared that information with the girls.

And I share this today because of how fortunate we all are to have here in Hartford this extraordinary asset, our public library. Thank you all for being part of learning opportunity.
